Ymane Fakhir grew up in Casablanca where she studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts (Sschool of Ffine Aarts). After a number of professional experiences, she moved to France and continued her studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d’Aix-en-Provence. Then followed, in quick succession, an exchange experience at the Ecole Nationale de la photographie d’Arles, a move to Marseille, and the development of a body of photographic and video work that is , made up of photography and video, concerned with her personal history and cultural background. Unapologetically focused, Ymane Fakhir’s work is constituted of images both delicate and rigorous, that interrogate the rites and customs of a rapidly changing society.
